It's bushfire season again and this one's looking to be the worst we've had in years. 40+ degree heat plus high winds and low humidity is not a good mix. :S
We're lucky to be far enough away from any open land to not be in direct danger from the fires. The nearest fire to us (the one at Bunyip Ridge) is still big enough to be really quite scary though - and to block out the sun for the whole of the day.
These photos were all taken during the day from just outside our house. (And none of these have been doctored in anyway - today was just mega eerie.)
Earlier in the day,

Mid-afternoon,

And later in the evening,
(Also the little speckles on these are not rain - and definately not snow - but pieces of ash. Sort of like that Doctor Who Christmas special - only no where near as thick and much, much blacker. Occasionally larger chunks of bark and leaves fell as well. We even caught a few of them.)

This is what a rain/snow of ash really looks like. (This car used to be a lovely shade of pure white.)

And finally, this is why you probably should wear some kind of shoes while running around taking photos of ash rain/snow.
