What is the soundtrack to your fandom? And why?
While I'm not the most musically inclined person around there are still certain songs that remind me/make me think of certain fandoms or the ships within them.
The Avengers
Because I'm Awesome - The Dollyrots - I love this song for Mrs. Peel. All the lyrics just fit her perfectly. There's no-one more awesome than Mrs. Peel. :)
My Life Would Suck Without You - Kelly Clarkson (Glee Cast Version) - This is my favourite song for Steed/Peel - both awesome on their own but together they're so much more. It's my greatest fandom wish to one day see a Steed/Peel fanvid made to this song.
Moonlighting
The Tracks Of My Tears - Smokey Robinson and The Miracles - This is very much David's theme. Head over heels for Maddie since the first time he met her all he wants is a little reciprocity. Always the joker on the outside when in reality he's broken inside.
Supernatural
Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult - Dean's favourite Mullet-Rock. The whole spirit of the show can be found in this song.
House
Love Me Dead - Ludo - Thanks to this trailer for the show House always makes me think of this song. It really does fit the character
Teadrop - Massive Attack - The song used for the original theme tune. I love this one for the show a lot more than the replacement score the Australian version of the series has. The whole heartbeat-beat medical angle of the clip fits so much better too.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
The Album - Sometimes a show does it best themselves. This is without a doubt my favourite CD soundtrack of all time. Listening to this one always takes me back to those highschool days of watching Buffy during its initial run and excitedly discussing it the next day with friends. Love it! :D
Life On Mars
The Album - Another official soundtrack done well. I love so many songs on this one - especially those that relate to Sam and his journey trapped in the past. A good driving album which also suits the show really well. :)
Firefly
Defying Gravity - Despite belonging to a completely different fandom Firefly is the one that first comes to mind whenever I hear this song because of this truly brilliant fanvid by

Star Trek XI
Circus - though I never would have thought of it myself a little Britney Spears is just perfect for Captain Kirk. This fanvid by

Jun. 25th, 2010 03:18 amIt's more than impossible to chose the single best quote in the history of television. This quote from an episode of Castle would be the one that has amused me the most in recent times. What is just a slightly funny quote from the show is made hilarious for those who know Nathan Fillion's history. This may just be my favourite Firefly reference from the show because it really did make me laugh out loud - much to the bemusment of my youngest brother who was watching it with me. :P
Here's a few more that always make me smile.
"I think we're trapped in an allegory." - Moonlighting
"Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy.
Today we were captured by hill-folk never to be seen again.
It was the best day ever." - Firefly (and basically every other line from that show)
"What do we say about the past?"
"It makes an ass out of you and me." - Pushing Daisies
"That's it. No more donuts for Masuka." - Dexter
"Nobody deserves mime, Buffy." - Buffy The Vampire Slayer
"An iPhone is like a penis. Fun to play with when you're on your own, but rude to pull out at the dinner table."
- Tom Gleeson, Good News Week

Not much to say here except I love everyone of these actors and the way they made their own characters so endearing in their own individual ways. It's not often I love every single character in a TV show but Firefly was probably the first for me (Pushing Daisies would be another). Even the secondary/guest characters such as Badger and Saffron were fantastic and played to perfection by the actors cast. I just love how well these nine people get along so well with each other both on and off screen It's a tribute to this amazing cast that the show and all its characters are so well loved and enduring for so few episodes made. :)

Nothing too deep here. Malcolm Reynolds is the captain of the spaceship Serenity from the TV show Firefly. Tough and war-hardened, Mal is a man who's not afraid to shoot first and do what he has to to get the job done and get paid. He's not a hero, just a man dong what he knows is right to keep himself and his crew alive and safe and free to live the way they want to. I like that the character is flawed - he's good with a gun but is a complete idiot with the ladies, and his plans aren't always the best thought out/he doesn't always make the right decisions. Luckily he has a loyal crew - really a second family - to help him out when things don't go his way, and to bring out his softer side. It also helps that he's just so very pretty. :)

The only thing harder than picking a favourite episode of Firefly is picking a least favourite. For me though I'd have to say that would be 'Heart Of Gold'. Not that the episode isn't great in its own right, but the more westerny themes and storyline just doesn't appeal to me so much. I'm a sci-fi girl through and through. And while this episode may not be my favourite I still love the developments in the Mal/Inara relationship ("I've been waiting for you to kiss me since I showed you my guns"), Wash & Zoe's discussion about having a family and this exchange:
"Wash, tell me I'm pretty."
"Were I unwed I would take you in a manly fashion."
"Because I'm pretty?"
"Because you're pretty."

When I first saw Firefly I missed the first few episodes - I remember seeing 'Shindig', being really confused, and wondering why people thought the show was so wonderful. As a result 'Our Mrs Reynolds' was the first episode where I really 'got' Firefly and fell completely in love with the show and all its characters. The fact that I'm a sucker for sillier more humor filled episodes also helps. I still love this episode and it has so many amazing moments and lines. Love the opening wagon ambush "If I could make you prettier I would", "I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you", the partying "How drunk was I?" "I dunno, I passed out", "Someone tries to kill you, you kill 'em right back", the 'special' hell, Vera, "Whoa, good bible!", "Whoa, good myth", "You woulda kissed her too", Wash and Kaylee geeking out engineering style, Vera lending a hand, and the classic Mal ending "I knew you let her kiss you". So much love. ♥

This could really have been a number of different shows. It's more than impossible to pick a favourite TV series of all time but, following on from yesterday, Firefly definitely deserves a huge mention. Part science fiction/part western Firefly is the story of nine different people who travel together through space in a Firefly class spaceship doing any kind of jobs they can in order to keep flying and remain free from the conformities of the modern system of government. With its strong and nuanced characters and clever writing Firefly is quite easily my favourite Whedon venture despite its very short run. That's not to say that I dislike the rest of Whedon's work, there's just something about the heart of this show and it's idea of freedom, and what that means, that really speaks to me. While Buffy will always be my first love Firefly is my true love.
Warning: This video contains some spoilers for both Firefly and the movie Serenity.

Pick your five all-time favourite fanvids, the ones which made you laugh or cry or kicked you in the guts, that inspired you to offer the vidder internets and first born sons, and tell us why you loved them. Any fandom, any pairing, any genre - the only requirement is they stood out from the crowd. Also, links or it didn't happen.

Giant Robot Spider
My little sister and I took a little trip to the city to see Jason Palmer, Ron Glass and Nathan Fillion.
For those who want to know more follow the cut.
Also I have now seen the pilot episodes for Drive, Pushing Daisies and Reaper.
Drive was very entertaining. I thought it had much 'Lost' potential. I can't see why on earth it was cancelled except that we all know what network it was on. >:(
I absolutley loved Pushing Daisies. I can't wait until it starts up here so I watch the whole season.
Reaper though didn't interest me at all. It seemed rather average to me and none of the characters were all that interesting. Does it get better?

Also some rather interesting Firefly mentions spotted this weekend.
This one amuses me because that site was my best friend at University. It was there me and a friend staved off boredom when we had free lessons and couldn't be bothered working. Good times. :)

Sep. 9th, 2007 01:00 amUtopia tonight. Made of awesome!
Loved it, loved it , loved it!
I was squealing just at the sight of the chain hanging out of Yana's pocket. Also loved how once again it was Martha who figured it all out. She really is too good for the Doctor. Can't wait for next week and lots more Simm!Master as the promo strongly suggests (and internets have since forever).
Loved having Jack back and interacting with the Doctor and also Martha. Nice to see the good old fun Jack too and not not the badly written Jack from Torchwood that I just haven't been able to enjoy or even like - as much as I've badly wanted to.
Speaking of Torchwood I personally find it really funny that there was a ton more exposition on Jack and his past - what's happened to him since The Parting Of Ways - in this one episode of Doctor Who then there was in that entire first series of Torchwood?
On a slightly different note it also amuses me that the Firefly DVD boxset is once again at the top of Amazon's bestseller list. This is almost four years after it's original release date and it's outselling the new Heroes box set released only a week or two back. Power to the Browncoats. ^_^
